Busy bee

Lately, life feels like it's moving at breakneck speed. I'm editing a book, blogging, working part-time at a yoga studio, finishing up yoga teacher training (which means that exams are coming!) and I've just gotten my first big freelance project. And of course, I still have a husband and friends and family who I'd like to see occasionally. All of these things are great, but doing them all at the same time is feeling kind of impossible right now. I'm beginning to realize the importance of prioritizing, and of setting boundaries for myself. At least for the next 4 weeks I'm going to be saying "no" a whole lot more, which I find really tricky. I'm also going to have to start waking up earlier, like a normal adult, something I also find incredibly tricky. So tell me, what do you guys do when you're feeling overwhelmed?


  1. I can SO relate to this. All I can say is be gentle with yourself... :) You are doing such amazing things!

  2. why is it that one little word can sometimes be so hard to say? "No", I struggled with this and still do from time to time. But as Nina said be gentle with yourself. What I discovered is that when I say "no" the other person doesn't think twice about it.

    I found my April was going to be hectic, so I turned around and canceled and postponed things. I felt better for this.

    Schedule in some "me time" into your calender, whether it's reading or soaking in the bath.

  3. I can't answer this because I am feeling EXACTLY the same. I work full-time, (quit school cause there wasn't the time or motivation), just turned in my first book proposal, have some freelance writing projects, started my Etsy shop, Oh and yes I have some friends and an amazing fella that I see while I don't ever sleep!
    WHY?! If I could just quit my job but still make $$ that would be MY ideal solution to it all. ;)

  4. apparently when i am overwhelmed i just read blogs instead of cleaning and stuff like i should be doing right now...because i have really been overwhelmed. maybe that is what they are talking about when they say "avoiding the problem". anyhoo.... better luck to you. ;)

  5. First things first-Congrats on your first freelance project! Where you not so excited?! You are a busy girl. Wow. That is a lot of stuff that has your hands full. If I lived in Sydney I'd bring you guys dinner so that would be one thing off of your to-do list. (vegetarian of course ;) ) I'm busy in a different kind of way- (happens when you are with two kids) that is why I decided to do the personal growth series because I felt like I didn't have enough time. For me, it was amazing how there is more time in the day when you prioritize, and get rid of distractions.

    I'm following the 5 steps from the post below (highlighted in yellow)


    It has meant less time reading blogs, but more time for things that I need to focus on.

    P.S. Thankfully your teaching training will be over soon and that will be one more thing off of your calendar.

  6. Ahhhh! I can totally relate. Sometimes I feel swamped with everything I need to do and I KNOW it's simply because my days are not as organized as they need to be. Definitely need to wake up earlier, prioritize and tell people "No". That way I'm not flipping out at 11 at night when I still have stuff to do! Good luck with your exams and everything....hopefully things will calm down soon! xoxo

  8. i so easily get overwhelmed. when i get really busy i do exactly what you're planning to do - simplify. only do what's necessary, don't take on more than you can handle. good luck with your yoga exams!

  9. I lay on my bed and stare at the ceiling. I do all my good thinking that way and it gives me a chance to file up my mind so I can focus and not feel overwhelmed.

  10. i usually resort to a mocha cappucino and a lot of ice cream :)

  11. I shut down completely.

    No, ok.. well. sometimes I do that.

    But I find prioritizing to be the best possible answer when life seems to get too busy. Figure out what's most important and go from there.

    And lists. Cause checking things off just feels so good.
