My plate wall

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

When we first moved into our apartment nearly a year ago, one of the first things I did was put up this plate wall over our table. It took me a while to collect all of the plates I wanted to use(and most of them came from op shops) and then it was another mission to buy plate hangers but I persisted! I really wanted that plate wall, damn it.

I'm so happy I did because I love the way they look. And since our living space is open plan, I think it helps separate the "dining room" from the "living room." But the best part is that I get to hang this gem of a plate...

Isn't it coolest plate you've ever seen?

p.s. I apologize if posting is a bit lighter than normal this week. I have a big project due on Monday so I'm short on time until then!

  3. loving your wall I am alwasy drawn to plate walls and love to take photos of them lol in cafes...about a year and a half ago I gave away our modern dinner set for op shops plates. I love that they don't match and that we use them everyday. I would always giggle when people in op shops would ask me if I was collecting them or would use them. I would say use them, which always was meet with two reactions one of either shock or one of delight.

Love that you have a special plate to remind you of home. Good luck with your project.

  7. I adore plate walls. I wanted to do one in our condo, but we settled on an armoire. Your plate collection is absolutely gorgeous and they all work together beautifully. xx veronika

  8. Love the plate wall and love the plate Gaby. I've had a long commute to work each day recently and I get car sick trying to read on the bus so I've been listening to a lot of CBC's the Vinyl Cafe Podcasts and the plate reminds me of something Stuart McLean would like. I feel like he's always talking about Seaways and Mountains :) I've been meaning to put up a wall of Vintage-style postcards that I collected while traveling last summer. I wanted to go to some "op-shops" (you're so Australian now...) to buy interesting frames, but have yet to get to it! It's been almost a year now! Ah! Maybe this will inspire me...
