being an adult (sucks)

me

Sometimes, being an adult just sucks. Like when your car breaks down in the middle of a busy highway in Sydney and you have to push it across multiple lanes of traffic and then spend the rest of your day sorting out towing and repair costs. Or when you miss your mom because you moved to the other side of the world. Or when the only mail you get are bills. Or when you feel like you're always cleaning, tidying, organizing and yet there's always a mess. Or when you realize you really, really, (I mean really) have to do your taxes.

Makes me wish I could be that smiley five year old again, frolicking in a field somewhere. What do you think sucks about being an adult? Please share...

  1. i think paying for everything sucks and realizing how good you used to have it when your life was "the worst"

but most of all, it sucks that you're expected to have your shit together at. all. times.

    no thank you.
    where's my time machine?

  2. Morgan, I'm with you on that one :)

Our 8yo son keeps telling me he can't wait to work his first job. I told him to enjoy being a kid first. But really, I wanted to tell him just what Gaby wrote: Sometimes, being an adult just sucks.

  3. I like that being an adult put things into perspective.
Like we NOW know how good it is to be a kid.
But mainly that you know it's not the end of the world if you don't get the lolly in the supermarket. When I see kids throwing themselves on the floor about that I always think: you just wait and see!

  4. My greatest fear is breaking down on the freeway. I once saw a woman break down in the center lane and she just sat there sobbing. That would be me.

  5. Being an adult is hard work. Often when my babies are fighting being strapped into the pram, I find myself telling them how they should appreciate that someone else is doing the work, and they should enjoy the ride x

  6. it sounds so weird, but making appointments! i HATE making doctors appointments and dentist appointments. i will always forget to make them in a timely manner (which then makes me crankier. vicious cycle.)

however, i do like being able to come home whenever i want to :)

  7. Sounds like a rough few days! :( I think just the expectation that your supposed to have it all together, all the time, is the worst. *Adorable pic btw. :)

  12. i'll add to that: in certain situations not being able to say what you really think (kids are always so blunt and honest) and to have your whole life already planned out in your twenties. i wish i had the balls to do more of no.1 and i'll never be the person who has no.2 figured out. hope things will look better tomorrow!

  15. Aww, I know exactly how you feel!! Also, I broke down on Stanmore Rd at the Liberty St right turn, just as the lights went green... Feel your PAIN!! Haha..

I hate that by 26 I figured I'd have it all worked out by now. Whatever that even means. Also, cooking every single night and remembering to buy toilet paper. It's the little things ;)

  17. I think you summed it up. Resposibilities and bills are the yukky bits of being an adult.

  18. Such a great post! Oh, where do I begin?! How about how life never gets easier and gets even more complicated?! Or how about having to go to work when you really don't want to because you are a responsible adult and have to pay the bills and mortgage? Or how about how you just are getting older and things aren't as tight and taut as they use to be?! Anyhow, that's just my 3 cents, but despite all the tough adult stuff, I still make a choice to be happy! -Jessica L

  20. I just graduated from university, and paying back student loans is the absolute worst! Also, apartment hunting is super stressful, especially when you and your new roommates must agree on a new place...
