on becoming a mummy blogger

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

I can't help but notice that ever since I became a mom last month, my blog has morphed into a never ending series of photos of Clementine. I feel kind of bad that when you come here now it's all baby, baby, baby!

I suppose I've always struggled to define exactly what my blog is about. When people ask me I've always answered simply, "It's about my life." And right now, as my life is all about motherhood I suppose it's only natural that my blog reflect that as well. That said, I do hope to find a better balance of baby/non-baby related content. I know that as Clementine grows bigger and less dependent on me I'll have more time for adventures and creating, and when the time comes I'll blog about that.

I'd love to know if any of you have experienced the same thing with your blogs. What would you say your blog is about? And has this ever changed with time?

  1. Oh I love your blog. and I also happen to love the photos of your sweet babe.

I also love the undefined edges of life. and of the unclear nature of blogs, books, as well as the stories of other peoples lives, etc. I think all of these things should be undefined at least a little to allow change and growth; just as our lives change. does that make sense? xo

  2. If your blog is you, it's a Gaby blog, not a mummy blog. x

    1. Couldn't have said it better myself! So well put. You are you, and a beautiful human at that. The best blogs (to me) are the ones that reflect genuine representations of these wonderful people I've come to "know" through the Internet... yours is a perfect example! Keep doing what's in your heart and you never need to worry about a thing :)

  3. i love that you say "about my life"...perfect! i always struggle with that question, "uhh about my dog? and newlywed life? and and and.."... i think it's totally natural for your blog to gravitate towards being a mommy blog now that you are a mom, and i still really enjoy reading it just as much!

  4. It's about you and your life, and she is your life.
    I love it that way!

  5. Agreed. Its your blog and what you find important. Blogs are allowed to grow and change just like any store is allowed to rebrand. And Don't worry you'll have more time to find that balance as well :)

  8. I struggle with this too. But my blog's about my life and my whole life is my baby, so I'm ok with that. It'll change and grow as he changes and grows, but right now, it's baby baby baby. Those of us with babies (and a lot of those without) love reading about all things baby, so keep it up!

  10. You should never apologise for being a proud Mummy and sharing your daughter and feelings on that. I'm sure you realize that while you could love and be proud of a craft project nothing is as satisfying as seeing your daughter's milestones, the touch of her skin, the look in her eyes. These are precious days and she is your life and you are writing about life. We all love babies and showing her off is perfectly natural and okay. It is an amazing time in your life and she is an amazing little person so show her off every day if you want to. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia

  11. Well, I like the addition of Clementine to your blog! She's lovely. It would be weird if you never mentioned her. I blog about my life, and my kids were already part of that when I started, so it was natural that I include them. You'll find the right balance soon enough. xx

  12. Your space is beautiful and through all the words and photographs you shine through. This space is about your journey on life and becoming a mother is a wholly life changing part of that. To share it is special. Enjoy finding your new rhythm x
