old homes

Tuesday, August 13, 2013

The first weekend that we were here, we visited our family friend who lives in the historic part of New Wesminster. Today it's a suburb of Vancouver, but back in the day, it was actually BC's first capital. Vancouver is a fairly new city, and it can sometimes feel like it's lacking character. So it's such a nice treat to wander through the streets of New West and gaze at the heritage homes. The gardens are also a sight to behold, with their hydrangeas, roses and canopies formed by 100 year old trees.  A short drive from Vancouver, it's definitely worth a visit if you ever find yourself in this part of the world.

  1. Didn't know this about New Westminister! I still think Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities in the north america. Your photos (per usual) = beautiful! I hope you are enjoying your visit back home. xo

  2. I love old homes and old lived in towns. They are so full of memories and I love feeling that connection to the past. The house I'm getting ready to move in to is old and has so much characters with it's original flooring and built ins. I love old homes and thinking about the kind of people who lived there in the past. Great pictures!

  3. Thanks for the little history lesson! I absolutely love these homes. Some of them remind me of other towns I've been to - have you been to Bellingham, WA? There are so many cute neighborhoods with such character there. I just went to a town here in California that reminded me of some of the historic places in the Northwest and it was amazing. Love these!

  4. Oh New Westminster´s houses are so pretty. My husband and I lived in New West for a couple of years, it was the first place we lived in when we moved in together after our long distance relationship. Looking at your photos brings me such nice memories. Vancouver is so beautiful in the summer!

  7. Lovely and so very very different from old German houses. I grew up in a house that was restored in the 1730s, which means it must already have been old then! It looked amazing next to all the new modern buildings in our village.
It's so different from what you consider an old house though. I love Canadian architecture. Houses look like puppet houses, so small and sweet :) and the photos you took are amazing. Love the colour!
